Trincomalee
According to the historical chronicles of Sri Lanka, Prince Panduvasudeva, the nephew of King Vijya, sailed into Sri Lanka from Sinhapura, India, via Trincomalee, also known as Gokanna, Gokarna, or Siri Gonamala, an ancient seaport town. “Badda Kachchayana, who went on to become the queen of King Panduwasdeva (505–474), arrived in Siri Gonamala harbour with her entourage of royal maidens. She was a sister of Dighavapi’s alleged founder, Prince Digha.
One of Asia’s oldest cities, Trincomalee has played a significant role as a seaport over the island’s history of international trade with South East Asia. The distance from Colombo city is 296 km. One of the greatest natural harbours in the world, Trincomalee Harbour could accommodate several ships , tankers as well. The water area spans about two thousand hectares. This habit is mostly used by the Prima Wheat Factory and the Petroleum (China Bay) Tanks.
The lovely beaches of Nilaveli, Uppavel, and Pigeon Island are surrounded by Trincomalee and its suburbs. The ability to offer diving, snorkelling, and swimming has made Trincomalee a popular destination for whale watching in recent years. The Dive Centre at Nilaveli also draws tourists.
Everything you require, including internet access, is available in Trinco Town. In the town and along Nilavell Road, there are numerous guest homes and a few hotels. On weekends, there are a lot of visitors, both domestic and foreign.
Deer roam freely along the roads of Trinco Town, which is committed to their protection.
The Trincomalee district comprises 13 Local Government Authorities and 645 localities. Thirty percent are Sri Lankan Tamils, twenty-seven percent are Sinhalese, and forty percent are Sri Lankan Moors.
