Yala

Spread across two provinces and two administrative districts, the Yala National Park is situated in the southeast of Sri Lanka.
The park’s southern and southwestern regions are located in the Hambantota district of the Southern province; all of the eastern and northeastern borders, as well as a portion of the southern boundary, run along the Indian Ocean. The park’s northern, northwest, and western regions are located in the Monaragala district of the Uva province. Yala is well known for its diverse biodiversity, which is mostly found in dry zone tropical thorn forests, as well as its beautiful shoreline and related coral reefs.

Numerous significant cultural relics attest to a previous civilisation and show that a large portion of the region was inhabited and highly developed, with an irrigation system providing water to the nearby paddy fields, including those of Yala.
